About Glenbrook Practice
About us
I founded Glenbrook Practice in 2015 with a clear vision: to create a mental health and counselling service rooted in the principles of acceptance and change, underpinned by Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I am deeply committed to supporting individuals as they navigate life’s emotional challenges and cultivate lasting personal growth.
My counselling journey was shaped by over twenty years in business, followed by completing a Rehabilitation Assistant (RA) course. This pivotal transition led me to a full-time position at the Kenilworth Clinic’s Adolescent Unit in Cape Town (KAYA, now part of Akeso Clinic Kenilworth) for four years. I received my foundational training in DBT-informed skills at the Kenilworth Clinic Adolescent Unit (KAYA), where I was introduced to Dr Marsha Linehan’s principles and guidelines, which continue to shape all my programmes and my private practice work today.
In that role, I had the privilege of facilitating family therapy and DBT groups for adolescents, providing evidence-based support for those experiencing complex emotional and behavioural difficulties. I worked to foster emotional regulation and resilience, while also managing aftercare and contributing to clinical assessments. These experiences deepened my understanding of adolescent mental health and the critical need for compassionate, continuous care.
Observing the profound impact of DBT on young lives remains one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. I hold a BA in Health Sciences and Social Services (Psychological Counselling) and have completed Lifeline’s Personal Growth and Counselling courses, which have strengthened my empathy, active listening, and effective communication skills. Volunteering for a year with Lifeline in crisis intervention provided invaluable practical experience. As Chief Executive Officer and Director of DBT Operations, Programmes and Publications at Glenbrook Practice (Pty) Ltd, I continue to integrate my experience to deliver high-quality, impactful mental health support. I approach this work with humility, always eager to learn and dedicated to helping clients build resilience and well-being.
